CD Canal, Delaware River and Cape May

We completed the CD canal, the Delaware River and are at anchor in Cape May.  The Chesapeake and Delaware Canal aka CD Canal is a 14 mile long 450 foot wide and controlled depth of 35 feet deep ship canal that connects the Chesapeake Bay and Delaware River.  The CD canal has 2 marinas across from one another, one in Chesapeake City and the other in Delaware City.  Chesapeake City has a nice protected bay and we anchored on the west side.  It is another historic small town with all the charm that entails.  We thoroughly enjoyed a walk through town and stopped for breakfast at a very nice bakery with a small selection of breakfast items and were able to buy a dozen eggs.  There are no grocery stores nearby.  I wish I could remember the name of the shop but I forgot to write it down.
Our plan for the Delaware River was to stage ourselves behind Reedy Island and travel the rest of the river to Cape May.  Delaware River is known for rough seas with the wind and current opposed.  The day we set out was iffy but we knew we could take the seas which were only predicted to be about two feet.  We ended up anchoring just a little ways up the Cohansey River.  The wind and current restricted us to 2-3 knots in speed and that wind and current is what needs to be watched for on this river.  Bruce asked me to check the chart for a place to get off and it just so happened we were only 2 miles from the Cohansey River.  We were fortunate because it appears that the Cohansey is the only place between us and Cape May to pull off the Delaware. The next day was a beautiful day and we completed the Delaware River and anchored in Cape May.  That night we had a severe thunder storms with tornadoes in the area.  I woke up to flashing lightning that lit the sky all around us, booming thunder and howling winds that had our boat heeling.  I checked my land marks to see if we were dragging and we were good but noticed the sail boat next to us was dragging.  Just as I began to get concerned for the other sailor I noticed he was in the cockpit and was powering up into the channel to wait for the winds to die down and then reanchored.  It was a wild night and Bruce slept through it all, lol.
